The Story Behind Steady Shot

Shawn Michels founder of Steady Shot insulin injection aid

My name's Shawn, and I'm a Type 1 diabetic on MDI (Multiple Daily Injections), diagnosed in 2012.

I was never afraid of needles and could give myself injections easily. It wasn’t a problem until I noticed bruising on my abdomen and thighs—early signs of lipohypertrophy. My doctor always advised me to rotate injection sites to avoid this condition, but I stuck to my abdomen and thighs because they were easiest to reach.

Fast forward a few years...

While attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I took an entrepreneurship class where I learned that the best products solve personal problems. That’s when I began developing Steady Shot.

After 3D printing several prototypes and pitching my idea, I was accepted into a startup accelerator on campus. With the guidance of incredible mentors, the final version of Steady Shot was born, and the product became market-ready. For the first time, I could use my left hand to inject on the far-left side of my body, my left hand to my right arm, and more.

Since then, I use Steady Shot every day for every injection. It allows me to reach sites I couldn’t access before. I'm passionate about getting Steady Shot out there because I believe it can help others experience the same benefits.

Sincerely,

Shawn Michels
